Kersnoofle ThreadBrawlers
A brawler game where you fight against other redditors' Snoo avatars to see who comes out on top, developed at Schell Games.
Overview
Thread Brawlers is a Reddit-native idle auto-battler developed at Schell Games using Devvit — Reddit’s developer platform for building interactive games and apps that live directly on Reddit. Built with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, the entire game lives inside r/ThreadBrawlers — your character sheet, challenge posts, battle replays, and rewards are all Reddit posts. Fight battles, equip items, level up, and build an OP Snoo to rise to the top of the leaderboards.
My Role
Co-developed with Mike Lew at Schell Games. Responsible for the avatar pipeline (importing and rendering Reddit Snoo avatars at runtime), combat mechanics, and overall game feel.
How It Works
Character View — Your pinned subreddit post shows your Snoo, current equipment, and the leaderboard. Use it to view stats, create challenge posts, or spend 100 EXP to level up and increase base HP.
Challenge Tokens — You start with 15 tokens; each battle costs 1. They reset daily to a minimum of 5, keeping the action going every day.
Battling — Browse the subreddit for challenge posts, click one, and hit Initiate Battle. The fight is fully automated — two Snoos duke it out arcade-fighter style with HP bars and damage numbers. After the battle, winners pick from 3 rewards (equipment or EXP); losers still get 1. You can also post your own challenge and earn passive EXP while other Redditors battle you.
Battle System
All battles are automated using three core stats:
| Stat | Effect |
|---|---|
| Attack | More damage dealt |
| Defense | Less damage taken |
| Speed | Attacks more frequently |
Equipment is procedurally generated with a base type (arm, chest, helmet…), a prefix (e.g. “Hearty”) that modifies stats, and a level that acts as a multiplier. Damage and defense come in three types — Melee, Ranged, and Magic — and only matching defense types reduce incoming damage, so build composition matters.
